Russia is deliberately creating a food crisis and using hunger as a “weapon,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Ukraine is one of the world’s leading food suppliers with exports,” he said.
“This is not just about the deficit and the threat of hunger. There will be food shortages and prices will rise and this is the reality for millions of people who are hungry and it will be harder for them. to feed their families ”.
In a speech to the Irish parliament, he attacked the West for failing to take stronger action against Russia and urged Ireland’s political leaders to persuade other EU countries to impose tougher sanctions.
“I can not tolerate any indecision,” he said, calling for “tougher” sanctions.
He also accused some political and business leaders of not considering war crimes as horrific as financial losses.
Citizens in the besieged cities of Ukraine and those under Russian occupation are reportedly struggling with access to food and running water.
As the situation in Ukraine becomes more dire, Zelenskyy has become more critical of Western leaders who he believes have not provided enough aid or who are still paying for Russian gas.
