Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski is expected to address the Albanian parliament next Tuesday with a greeting speech via a video call from Kiev.
Sources from the assembly told top channel that an agreement has been reached with the Ukrainian presidential staff for Zelenski, through a special session, to deliver a speech in parliament.
This will be the first time the Ukrainian president will speak for a parliament in Southeast Europe. Since the start of the war, Zelenski, the man who has become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance, has spoken to several European parliaments from where he has appealed for more military aid.
In the second week of the barbaric occupation of Ukraine by the Russian war machine, Prime Minister Edi Rama had a telephone conversation with President Zelenski who through a message on Twitter said that with Rama “It was discussed about the joint work within the United Nations. We appreciate the practical help and support of Albania in this difficult time. “We are doing everything we can to end the war.”
The bloody Russian offensive in Ukraine placed Albania on the side of the American allies, turning into a strong voice denouncing Putin’s crimes, in the sessions of the UN Security Council.
In addition to the diplomatic aspect, Albania, as Top Channel reported in early March, sent a large amount of ammunition through NATO military missions to help Ukraine.
The Albanian government approved a quick decision, to allow the stay of Ukrainian war refugees for 12 months in our country without the need to apply for a residence permit.
According to data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, so far more than 1000 Ukrainians have come to Albania to take refuge.
