Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said up to 100 Ukrainians could die every day as fighting continues on the east side of the country.
Ukrainian troops are currently trying to defend the eastern city of Severodonestk as it faces heavy bombardment by Russian forces trying to take Donbas.
The only working hospital in the city has only three doctors and supplies for 10 days, according to Luhansk provincial governor Serhii Haidai.
In April, Zelenskyy said between 2,500 and 3,000 Ukrainian troops had died so far in the war with Russia and 10,000 others had been wounded.
He has now urged the 27-member EU to speed up his country’s bid to join. It will be discussed at a Brussels summit in late June.
