Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Ukrainian forces are still fighting in Severodonjeck, despite the Russian military having more troops and weapons in the eastern region of Ukraine.
“They are more in number, they are stronger, but we have the opportunity to fight.” Zelensky said, adding that fierce house-to-house fighting and indiscriminate bombing by the Russian military had turned Severodonjecki and Lisichansk into “dead cities”.
The conquest of these two strategic targets means that Russian forces will have control of the entire Luhansk region in the east.
The British Ministry of Defense, said in its last update on June 7 that Russian progress last month around Severodonjeck, has now stagnated.
According to her, Moscow should make a turning point in the areas of Popasna, Severodonjeck and Izjum, if it wants to mark “success and progress towards political objectives to control Donetsk.”
Zelensky said in the late hours of June 6 that a “threatening situation” was taking place in Zaporizhia, a city which Russian military forces are seeking to control despite fighting in the Donbas.
“The enemy wants to invade Zaporizhia.” said Zelensky.
Even the General Staff of the Ukrainian army has said that Russian military troops are being strengthened in the direction of Zaporizhia.
Taking control of this city would enable the Russian army to reach the center of Ukraine more easily.
The Zaporizhia region, part of which is already controlled by Russia, is one of the largest industrial zones in Ukraine and is home to the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24. He called the war a “special military operation” to demilitarize Ukraine. The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions./ REL
