The Ukrainian president has ruled out a visit to Moscow for face-to-face talks with Vladimir Putin, while the country extended martial law for another 30 days.
“For my country, I’m ready to go to any place on the planet, but certainly not now, and even more so in Moscow. “This is not even discussed,” Reuters reported, citing an interview by Zelensky in a Russian media outlet, Mediazona.
“Otherwise, in other circumstances, a meeting in Moscow would be more likely,” he said.
Zelensky said Putin had made a catastrophic mistake by invading his country. He added that Ukraine had offered all possibilities for Russia to exchange Ukrainian citizens with Russian soldiers, and that it was waiting for a response from Moscow.
Responding to the Kremlin’s statements that their forces had liberated Mariupol, he said that it is true that their forces have most of the territory, but the Ukrainian soldiers are staying there and not retreating.
The Russian president canceled the attack on Azovstal in Mariupol earlier on Thursday.
“Block this industrial area so that not a single fly can escape,” Putin said, adding that it would be “impractical” to attack the entire plant.
