US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim through a message on “Twitter” says that “Strengthening democratic institutions and the fight against corruption are US priorities in Albania. “We welcome the continuation of the parliamentary commission for incinerators.”
The ambassador emphasizes that “accountability is key to democracy.”
At first glance it seems like a routine message in the wake of Ambassador Kim’s many messages about the need to deepen the fight against corruption.
In fact it is not so. Top Channel has learned from diplomatic sources that Ambassador Kim, on Thursday afternoon had a meeting with Taulant Balla and Enkelejd Alibeaj, respectively chairmen of the parliamentary groups of SP and PD.
The meeting, the same sources said, aware of what was discussed, focused on blocking the situation created with the parliamentary commission for the investigation of Incinerators and the approval of the constitutional amendment to extend the term of the vetting bodies.
Ambassador Yuri Kim has mediated the resolution of this situation. Top Channel learns that the result produced by this meeting, developed away from the public attention is this.
Taulant Balla agreed that there are gaps in the assembly regulations that allow the postponement of the work of the investigative commission for incinerators as required by the DP.
On the other hand, it is learned that Enkelejt Alibeaj is committed to vote for the constitutional change with 94 votes, where the votes of the Democratic Party are needed.
In such conditions, the meeting mediated by Yuri Kim has produced a ‘happy end’, for Balla and Alibeaj.
As the Americans say, a “Win Win” for both sides.
