Johanna Mazibuko reportedly celebrated her 128th birthday this week, saying a diet of milk and fresh herbs has helped her longevity.
The woman from South Africa who celebrated her dubious birthday is believed to be already the oldest person in life.
The identity documents she holds say she was born in 1894.
Since then she is estimated to have lived in the time of British colonialism, in the apartheid era and then during the two world wars.
Johanna, who lives in Klerksdorp, told reporters she grew up on a corn farm in the town of Ottosdal and is the eldest of 12 children.
“We lived very well on the farm, we had no problems,” she says, although she does not hear well, but is independent enough to move around the house on her own.
She often sits down to share memories from early life, as she finds them easier to remember.
The woman says: “I was married to an older man. His first wife had died. He was an independent man, had horses and cows. I milled the cows and made butter which I then sold.
“That man treated me well and made me forget my previous life. “I did not need anything.”
The woman says she had seven children with Stawana, two of whom are alive today. She also boasts about 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Johanna community in South Africa is trying to formally recognize a woman’s age from the Guinness Book of Records.
Recently Johanna has said she is not sure how she reached such a great age.
“When I die I want to be slaughtered for a cow, I want to be buried well, so as not to bother people anymore.”
