A woman who died in her car had deliberately entered the Niagara River in the northwestern U.S. yesterday, authorities said.
The dramatic footage published shows the Coast Guard’s attempts to recover the woman by air.
“At this point in the investigation, entering the water by car seems to be a deliberate act,” regional police chief Christopher Rola told the network. Buffalo News.
After entering the water, the car was stuck in the river bed only 30 meters away from the waterfall.
The horrific incident was captured on camera by the U.S. Coast Guard, as a diver then got into the car from the helicopter for the woman’s recovery.
But the driver of the vehicle, who was reportedly around 60 years old, was later pronounced dead. She was the only passenger in the car.
Until late yesterday her car was still in the river, getting closer and closer to the edge of the abyss, media said.
Police have not yet publicly identified the woman, who was reportedly from the Buffalo area.
