A woman in her 60s has been arrested today during the search for the rapist of a Norwegian aristocratic student, who was killed in London 14 years ago.
Police called the development a “major achievement” in the search for the son of a Yemeni millionaire known as “son-zhuan”.
23-year-old Martine Vik Magnussen, was found dead amid the rubble in the basement of an apartment in central London, after a night of fun with friends to celebrate exam results.
Security cameras showed him coming out of the exclusive Maddox bar around 2 a.m. on March 14, accompanied by Farouk Abdulhak, the son of a Yemeni sugar mogul who, like the victim, was a student at Regent’s Business School in London.
The suspected killer had fled Britain hours after the murder, reportedly, on his father’s private jet.
Officers are already urging him to return to Britain to face justice.
The unidentified woman was arrested today at an address in central London on suspicion of aiding the killer in evading justice, and is being questioned.
Ms Magnussen’s father, Odd Petter Magnussen, called Abdulhak ‘a coward’ and appealed to him to return, saying: “You can not hide forever.”
Abdulhak is the son of one of the richest people in Yemen, Shaher Adbulhak, a sugar producer with a net worth of about $ 7 billion.
He had previously invested in the Coca-Cola group, and died last year in Germany after being treated for a serious illness.
After Miss Magnussen’s death, Abdulhak fled first to Egypt and then to Yemen.
Britain’s Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood said: “Martine’s family has never given up on the fight for justice and after 14 years since the assassination they have tried hard to keep it in the public consciousness.”
“Martine’s family has been informed of the development which, although a positive step, still has a lot of work to do,” he added.
In 2008, Abdulhak issued a statement through his lawyer stating that he did not prefer to be called a “criminal” and that he was not a fugitive.
Abdulhak’s father expressed condolences to Magnussen’s family at the time and said he would not tolerate such behavior from members of his family.
