Following Amber Heard’s 2018 Washington Post article in which she claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse, Johnny Depp’s future in “Pirates of the Caribbean” as Captain Jack Sparrow seemed very uncertain. During his latest defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife, the 58-year-old said:
There was a very deep and distinct sense of betrayal from the people I had worked with, the people I had worked so hard for, the people I had given a character they initially despised.
The star who plays Jack Sparrow claimed he had been offered to take part in ‘Pirates 6’ and had hoped to give the much-loved character a fitting ending. Depp said:
My feeling was that these characters should be able to have the right farewell, so to speak. A franchise can only last for so long and there is a way to end such a franchise and I thought the characters deserved to go out, to end the franchise with a very good grade. I planned to continue until it was time to stop.
Depp was asked by Heard’s lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, in court:
The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney were to come to you with $ 300 million, nothing on this earth would force you to go back and work with Disney on Pirates of the Caribbean? Correct?
Depp simply replied, “That’s true, Mr. Rottenborn.” However, after winning his defamation case against Heard, a former Disney executive has claimed it is likely the actor will return to the franchise. After Depp won the case, he posted on Instagram: “The jury brought me back to my life… the best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun.”
Speaking to People, a former Disney executive said:
I absolutely believe after the verdict that the Pirates are preparing for the resumption with Johnny as Captain Jack back on board. There is plenty of potential treasure in the crate for a beloved character deeply ingrained in Disney culture. With producer Jerry Bruckheimer having Tom Cruise’s massive success in “Top Gun: Maverick,” he has a huge appetite to bring back Hollywood stars that could be funded in massively popular franchises.TopAlbaniaRadio
