In the Ukrainian village of Serhiivka, in the eastern Donbas region, there are almost no young people left.
Before the war started there were 1500 inhabitants in Serhiivka and the village was full of life, writes CNN.
But the village, about 50 km (30 miles) from the front lines east and south, has been evacuated. There are only 300 left and mostly the elderly.
“I have lived here all my life,” said Mykola Luhynets, a 59-year-old young member of the territorial defense unit with a rifle.
““I will stay here in Serhiivka and protect it if necessary.”he adds.
Unlike young people, they are reluctant to leave their homes to save lives.
“It’s hard for seniors to get out on the streets, they have stronger emotional ties to the place where they live They do not want to die anywhere except at home”Said Valeriy Duhelnyy, head of the village.
