Former Socialist Deputy Prime Minister Erion Brace erupted in accusations when he explained in parliament that the Albanian price crisis is one and a half floors higher.
“It is a crisis coming from international markets. But it is also a crisis that comes from abuse here inside. It is also a crisis that comes from national markets. “Captured captures focused neither free nor competitive.”.
He asked the government, especially the Minister of Agriculture Frida Krifca, to tell the truth, no matter how painful it may be.
“I heard here a while ago that we have VAT reduction for fertilizer products. It’s not like that. We must tell the truth as it is. We set a 10% VAT on fertilizer products even though I shouted and screamed here in this room that no new tax is imposed on products when prices are rising. We went ahead with this award. We have to undo it”.
Erion Brace joined the concern a few days ago raised by Top Channel, for more transparency, how the decisions of the oil and food board are made.
“People have a right to know how they are doing with this new price of oil, gasoline and gas. They should know very clearly how much oil enters the territory of the Republic of Albania. How much is the operating costs of the companies. How many taxes and fees and what is the profit margin. Also people need to know how to get to this price oil, rice, sugar and flour”.
The Socialist MP proposed as a solution:
“Democratizing the economy is vital. To democratize markets. Restoring competition is even more important. Because in the captured markets there is a need for freedom, there is a need for new entrants for new operators that those traders who have captured these markets, those associations that function today as cartels in all the most profitable markets of the country need to be challenged and compete in their profit rates”.
As much as the parliamentary debate included fuel taxes, Erion Brace recalled that
“The excise tax was imposed by Sali Berisha. The turnover tax was set by Sali Berisha. VAT was imposed by Sali Berisha. The carbon tax was imposed by Sali Berisha”.
