The Covid pandemic has killed nearly 15 million people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The long-awaited WHO estimate of the total number of covid-induced deaths finally puts a number on the broader impact of the pandemic.
This figure is 13% more deaths than normally expected over two years, or three times more sec than expected.
WHO: Most deaths are concentrated in Southeast Asia, Europe and America. The most affected countries are Brazil, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, the Russian Federation, South Africa, Turkey and the United States.
These WHO calculations also take into account deaths that were not directly due to Covid, but were caused by its effects, such as people not having access to hospitals to get the care they needed.
The WHO believes many countries did not count the death toll from Covid.
