In recent years, the Iranian regime has invested in increasing its cyber warfare capabilities.
Fabin Zhilla, an expert on justice and security issues, explains which Iranian military formations specialized in cyber warfare may have participated in the unprecedented cyber attack on Albania last week.
“Most likely this is an attack by hackers sponsored by the Iranian state. The typology of Iran-backed attacks is carried out by Revolutionary Guard Hackers. These mainly attack institutions of special importance to collect intelligence data”Fabin Zhilla said
Expert Zhilla tells which Iranian military unit is behind the attack in Albania.
“Organizations supported by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MIS) such as Muddy Water. In fact, this organization is part of MIS and one of its objectives is to attack the institutions of the countries that host and support the Iranian opposition. Muddy Water has attacked the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Health in Turkey in February 2022. Another group supported by Iran is the one called Phosphorus or APT35. These mainly track certain persons or institutions by stealing your data and eavesdropping. They can use the confidential data for blackmail and fines”– said Zhila.
Security expert Fabian Zhilla suggests that our authorities should immediately contact our international partners, but above all, get in touch with the Turkish side to learn how they have managed this situation.
Since 2020, says Fabian Zhilla, Iran has seriously invested in cyber warfare and espionage, and Albania is among the main targets. According to him, a multi-dimensional policy is needed for this before we are faced with an attack even more destructive than this one.
