“We want a President over the parties, not a party between the parties”, Balla: We sit with the opposition without any preconditions

Consultations for the new President of the Republic will serve to draft an identity for the Head of State, and not to come up with concrete names.

Balla made it clear when he said that consultations would be conducted between parliamentary groups, stating emphatically that there is no parliamentary group of the Re-establishment Commission, or the SMI in the Assembly.

Why not call from the Re-establishment Commission?
Historically, in the Albanian parliament, I know all the processes that have taken place, the constitution provides for consultations within the assembly. The candidate is supported by the signatures of 20 deputies. There is no parliamentary group called the Re-establishment Commission, there is not so I do not know.

We are starting or seeking dialogue with groups in the assembly according to the parliamentary tradition. I could take turns on what happened in 2002 or 2007 when there was contact between parliamentary groups. I think all three groups would respect it.

The SP has enough numbers to elect the president but we want this process to be in line with the constitution and to be standard for the future. We need a president who really represents the unity of the people, to be a head of state that befits Albania, and of course for the President to be above the parties, not a party between the parties, as the outgoing president has been.

Transparency with the groups, will you announce the result, or will Rama set it?
It is a process that culminates in plenary voting. We want to identify what he should represent and who the new president of the republic should be. The opposition may come up with the proposal to be a representative of them. There are no conditions in this dialogue, we want to sit with the opposition without any preconditions, we want to give Albania a President who has the shadow of the country. Do not expect that after each process to say these are the 5 quoted, this is the least voted. In this respect a little patience is needed, but we will manage to get where we need to within the time available.
