Well-known Irish singer Sinead O’Connor has recently published a series of comments signaling that 17-year-old son Shane had made detailed plans for his funeral a month before the suicide, as he was supposed to be in the care of mental health professionals.
The singer spoke of negligence on the part of health and state authorities towards her 17-year-old son who hanged himself after leaving the hospital last week.
O’Connor said the only contact he had with health authorities was when he was asked to “avoid negative publicity”.
The woman in black wrote that “suicide will not bring you peace” and that “I will punch the next person in the face who says ‘at least he is at peace now'”.
The singer of the popular 1990s hit ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was at the identification of her son’s body in south Dublin on Friday.
After paying homage to her son she wrote angrily about the failure of the authorities of the mental health care center.
“Do not forget that I am not aware that I failed with my son, but together with the Irish health and state agencies.”
“Suicide does not bring peace to anyone. “I could see from his face how upset he had been for months,” wrote the mother.
“My child was supposed to be under surveillance against suicide and the health agency tells me they are concerned about negative publicity.”
“A month ago Shane came here after he disappeared leaving behind detailed notes about the funeral, and they let him go. But when objections were raised by his companion, they told him that “planning a funeral is no different from planning a wedding.”
The singer wrote that her son had learned how to make rope knots by searching the computer of the Linn Dara hospital psychiatric ward.
