Serbs have returned to protests as the Association of Environmental Organizations of Serbia is organizing new checkpoints, indicating that outrage over Rio Tinto’s Jadar project and Lithium excavations has not yet subsided.
Media in Kosovo report that citizens have blocked the highway in Belgrade near the Sava Center as well as several roads in other cities such as Novi Sad.
N1 reports that there was an incident when a driver got out of the car and tried to physically confront the protesters. The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabiç stated earlier today that the government is very close to the decision to cancel everything that is happening with Rio Tinto and to withdraw all the permits that have been given to that company.
But the collectors do not obey. They say that before all permits are revoked, everything signed must be made available to the public. It is learned that the company has continued to buy the properties of Serbian citizens to start work with lithium excavations. Weeks ago, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had stated that he had refused to sign the Expropriation Law, which would allow the company to carry out excavations by the Anglo-Australian company.
