Iran fired missiles from land and sea as part of five-day military exercises in the country’s three provinces, including maneuvers near its only nuclear power plant, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said.
The drills come after the United States said it was preparing “other alternatives” if negotiations to renew an agreement aimed at curbing the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program do not work.
“We are conducting exercises and preparing to destroy the enemy before approaching the islands in the Strait of Hormuz“, Said the head of the Iranian navy, Alireza Tangsiri.
One-fifth of world oil production passes through this strait. The military exercises, says AFP, included biological warfare maneuvers, while high-precision missiles were also tested.
