The First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, visited this Saturday Ukrainian women and children who have been sheltered in Romania since the war in Ukraine.
America’s first lady heard creepy stories while visiting a school hosting refugee students.
Her visit to Eastern Europe comes as President Joe Biden is pressuring Congress to spend an additional $ 33 billion on economic and security assistance.
“We are with you”the first lady told the mothers of some of the students, after visiting classes where children aged 5 to 15 already attend school, according to Sky News.
During a conversation with a young Ukrainian girl, the child told her through an interpreter: “I want to go back to my father!“. Dr. Biden later told reporters that the girl’s words were “heartbreaking”.
“I think mothers do everything for their children”said the first lady, calling them strong women.
About 7,000 Ukrainians cross the border and arrive in Romania every day, said Pablo Zapata, the Romanian representative for the UN refugee agency.
“We all hope, don’t we?”, Dr Biden told reporters. ““We wake up every morning and think this should end, but it still goes on and on.”
Ms Biden is on the second day of a four-day trip to Romania and Slovakia designed to show US support for Ukrainian refugees.
