This summer, the city of Shijak and the surrounding villages are facing a significant lack of water in the network.
Not only the high temperatures, but also the works being carried out for the construction of a new water supply line have affected the population’s water supply.
“Currently as we speak, we have a problem with the supply of the city of Shijak and the villages. One of the reasons is the drought and high temperatures, but the investment that is being made in the supply pipe of the city of Shijak also affects…”, says Ivo Doçi, head of UKD for Shijak.
Water is also being distributed by trucks from the Durrës Waterworks, but this does not cover the needs of the residents, many of whom are forced to buy, in addition to canisters of water for drinking, and bottles of water for other household uses.
“I have no brother. Once a week, or once in three days. Buy them water. So far I have received 80,000 Lek of water.”
“One day it’s there, 3 days it’s not there… We buy it at the water machines. The cars are coming. Where does the account come from? No work, nothing. Happy working day toads.”
“Here we buy it, yes, and they gave us water in big buckets. They answered us for water.”
“The government knows about us. I have nothing to say.”, residents say.
In order to improve the supply of drinking water with funds from the state budget, the municipality of Shijak is making 2 important investments with a value of 4.8 million euros that are expected to be completed within the month of July, putting an end to the water crisis.
“There will be an increased amount of water and there will be no problems at all in the water supply in the city and the countryside. This pipe is both a supplier of the Silore warehouse and a distributor, therefore it was necessary to make a new investment only as a supplier. This avoids interference in the network and abuses, all the problems that have a pipe that is amortized after many years”, says Ivo Doçi.
In addition to the new line, investments are also being made in the construction of the water distribution network in the city. Despite the investments, in the conditions of the long drought that is affecting the decrease in the level of water resources, UKD calls on citizens not to waste water.
