If Russia decides to invade Ukraine, the conflict will spread further into Europe, warns a senior Western intelligence official quoted by CNN.
“Let us not be blind“, The official who preferred to remain anonymous told reporters.
“If Russia takes such a step, it will also take action against NATO members. It would be foolish to think that war can be confined to one nation“, He said.
Britain’s top military officer shares this view. For Admiral Tony Radakin, he said the invasion would be on a scale not seen in Europe since World War II.
The officer described the gathering of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine as “deeply disturbing”.
Despite warnings from the US and its NATO allies that any invasion of Ukraine by Russia would have “serious economic consequences”, Moscow troops have not moved out of the country.
According to Western intelligence services, Russia has so far stationed nearly 100,000 troops positioned near the border with Ukraine, along with methane and artillery.
Washington says that by the end of January, their number could reach 175 thousand.
