Alina, Alexander, Daniel aged 8-14, to escape the bombing, slept in underground parking lots in Kharkiv since the war began.
They told the AFP network how they experienced the start of the war and their desire for peace.
“When I woke up on February 24 I was shaking with fear. It was the first night we slept in the chairs then the parents brought beds, and they slept in the chairs. This new year and on my birthday the only wish I will express is for the war to end as soon as possible“, Says Alina.
“At first I did not hear the bombing, my mom woke me up saying: wake up son because the war has started, I did not know what to think, I did not want to leave the house, but we had to leave”confesses Daniel.
“Now that we hear a siren, we know we have to hide, even when we hear gunshots, we have to go to shelters as soon as possible, or stay in the hallways, at the moment these are the only safe places for us.”says Alexander.
At least 215 children have reportedly lost their lives so far as a result of the war in Ukraine and hundreds of thousands more have been displaced with their parents in an attempt to escape the bombing.
