Ukraine’s chief prosecutor, Iryna Venediktova, told the BBC that between 100 and 200 new war crimes cases were reported by Russians every day.
She has met with British Attorney General Suella Braverman and other officials to discuss what she can do to help the UK and other Western powers support the investigation.
“Today we have approximately 14,000 cases, for war crimes alone, and approximately 6,000 related cases. This means that we have a large number of precedents and every day we have more and more “said Iryna Venediktova.
Venediktova said the most common alleged war crime is the bombing of civilian buildings, especially hospitals and schools. In total, she said, more than a thousand health and education buildings have been destroyed.
She also said that civilians are being killed and that there is looting and rape. Venediktova also reveals that genocide allegations have begun to be investigated.
“I absolutely agree that we in Ukraine have genocide. Why? Because they, I mean, the top Russian commanders [ushtarakë] came to [Ukrainë]to destroy [shtetin] Ukrainians, to kill all Ukrainians, and they want this land [të jetë] as a part [e] Russian Federation. “
She acknowledges that it will be difficult to investigate genocide in Russian-controlled territory.
He added that the legal authorities of Ukraine should take steps to prosecute war crimes, because according to her “only we understand our land, our people, our land.”
But she acknowledges that the International Criminal Court in The Hague should play a role in prosecuting top Russian leaders for the invasion, even Vladimir Putin.
“It simply came to our notice then [është] a big fish, is a fish for international justice “added Venediktova.
