In Tirana, independent observers of Albanian politics see with concern the fact that in the Democratic Party they are still waiting for solutions, believing in political myths and not realistic discussions.

Well-known researcher of political developments in Albania, Afrim Krasniqi, says that it is good news that political parties talk about their internal democracy, how they work and how they make decisions.
This debate, according to him, brought to light again the need to reform the laws on political parties, and he would like a similar debate to take place in other parties, because the current leaders have greatly personalized their role in political parties.
“It is astonishing how 30 years after political pluralism our parties function in an undemocratically personalized way and how certain individuals almost come to identify with political parties and use it in the service of their personal agendas. The Democratic Party today has both. We have today more of a party of one or the other than a real party that functions with program, identity, structures and statute.
The most positive development for the Democrats would be, according to analysts, the election of a leadership that is not hostage to anyone, because Albania is at a critical point, because the decision of the Democrats whether on the 11th or 18th is the decision of the desperate, people who do not they see perspective, they do not see representation, not even in local government, and they feel outside the political system of the country.
But the separation of the two leaders will be reflected in the parliamentary group and beyond, says analyst Lutfi Dervishi.
“The internal crisis in the Democratic Party will not be resolved either on December 11 or December 18. On the contrary, the division will deepen and its resolution will take months on this anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Party, the first opposition party. The division is from the top to the base, but the dimensions of how and how much remains to be seen “- says Mr. Dervishi.
Analysts claim that the decisions of the two halves of the DP are not parliamentary laws and in a narrow partisan view are equally legitimate.
Mr. Krasniqi says that the DP also faces the challenge of vetting within it, because individuals with criminal records, with corrupt files, in relation to the US, as well as the local judicial system can not continue to hold hostage the decision-making structure of of this party.
“I think both sides; either the party organizing today or the party organizing on December 18 have the same legitimacy for any possible decision-making, but their decisions have no legal value. Their decisions are more to accept the fact that the official Democratic Party is no longer fully official, and the large faction represented by the former chairman is no longer the Democratic Party, but is half of this party. There are two halves that are forced to negotiate in the coming months and prove how much they have real support in this party.
Today’s developments put the mayor Lulzim Basha in a new position, because from today he can not be seen as a leader with all the functions of mayor. But he has to face reality.
When half the members think he can not function, then a political solution must be found; not a technical solution to who controls the headquarters, logo or seal, analysts say.
“Now the ball remains with Mr. Basha, what actions he will take on December 18, while the membership has been called to vote for his dismissal. The battle will take place, but it remains to be seen the Democratic Party as a parliamentary group, as a new structure, as a membership. There is a narrowing of space on the part of the membership for Mr. Basha, it remains to be seen what will be his response to the assembly convened by the membership today “- says Mr. Dervishi.
Analysts believe that already among Democrats the division is clear, even indecisive individuals will force them to take a side.
But after the two developments on December 11 and 18, the DP, they claim, needs a third meeting, which discusses and resolves issues with understanding and realism and which brings a new alternative to return to power./ VOA
