In Albania, marijuana cultivation recorded increasing figures during 2021.
Official data from flights carried out by Italian Guardia di Finanza vehicles show a significant increase in cultivated areas
The figures were announced during a joint press conference by the Albanian police and the Italian Guardia di Finanza. There are over 37 hectares suspected of being used to cultivate cannabis sativa, the largest area since 2016.
An Italian Guardia di Finanza plane and helicopter carried out 70 missions with 182 hours of flight, thanks to which over 1,100 plantations were discovered, where over 92 thousand cannabis roots were destroyed, from 58 thousand a year ago.
While in total, according to the data of the Albanian police, which in turn engaged drones and a helicopter of the Ministry of Defense, are 164 thousand destroyed roots compared to 137 thousand discovered last year.
The Italian representatives explained that the cultivation of cannabis sativa has shifted from the south to the central and northern areas of the country. They said, however, that no case of marijuana trafficking to Italy has been registered during this year, while there have been cases detected in other neighboring countries.
