The Macedonian opposition party, VMRO-DPMNE, will not accept any agreement with Bulgaria if a solution that is reached harms the national and state interests of northern Macedonia, Macedonian opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski said on Wednesday.
He has asked the Social Democratic League (SDSM) of the Prime Minister, Dimitar Kovacevski, to adopt in the Assembly a resolution to protect the image and identity of the Macedonian national hero, Goce Delchev.
The VMRO leader said that he doubts that in the talks with the Bulgarian side, the Macedonian side will give up Delchev’s Macedonian origin, but also the Macedonian identity and language.
“I have offered unity for all of us to stand behind the protection of national interests as the people have been overwhelmed by corrupt and criminalized politicians, at the expense of the identity of the Macedonian people, who are getting richer and making careers at the expense of the Macedonian people “, declared Mickoski.
He said that the positions in the talks with Bulgaria have deteriorated also due to, as he said, the fact that the Albanian politicians of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) have the main say in the process.
“Negotiating positions are being undermined, as the Macedonian identity and the state in general have been put up for auction. Artan Grubi, Bujar Osmani and Ali Ahmeti have put the amendment of the Constitution up for auction and this is being confirmed by the administrator Kovacevski, the blind heir of Zaevism. “With our request that the Assembly approve a statement on the great Goce Delchev, not only are they strengthened, but even more importance is given to those who are negotiating at the table”, said Mickoski.
He said that he had also informed the Bulgarian officials, the Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov and the President, Rumen Radev, that “VMRO will not accept any harmful agreement between the two countries”.
Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski dismissed the opposition’s claims, stressing that talks with Sofia were transparent and that there could be no talk of “betrayal of national and state interests”.
“The process is taking place at the level of experts, who are working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at full capacity, together with their colleagues from Bulgaria, and when there is a solution acceptable to both parties, it will be done. known to the public, but also to this will be notified all institutions which must approve in accordance with applicable provisions. “Everything we have talked about so far has been transparent and we have not hidden anything, so it will happen in the future,” said Kovacevski.
According to him, VMRO’s claims that the institutions of Northern Macedonia are giving up Goce Delchev’s ethnicity are not true.
“Goce Delchev is a revolutionary of the Macedonian national war, who fought for an independent state in which we live today, who is a member of NATO and on the verge of starting talks with the EU, after resolving the dispute with Bulgaria that should “to be resolved in the spirit of European values and in the spirit of mutual respect,” said Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski.
Goce Delchev, a figure who acted against Ottoman rule until 1903, is considered a hero of two states, Bulgaria and northern Macedonia.
The debate between the experts of the two countries, regarding issues of identity and language, also includes the origins of many historical personalities.
Sofia urges Skopje to recognize Bulgarian roots in Macedonian language and identity. Precisely due to disagreements on these issues, Bulgaria in November 2020 used its veto, which blocked the start of membership talks between Northern Macedonia and the European Union.rel
