A pilot has released the terrifying video of the forced landing on a major US highway when his single-propeller plane suffered engine trouble.
Vincent Fraser was flying over rural northern California when his engine began to lose power.
He told the media: “I started to check what I could do but I knew that I didn’t fly for more than 3 or 5 seconds before I lost altitude.”
He adds that when he saw the Route 19 freeway, he began to descend, avoiding oncoming vehicles and maintaining the curves of the asphalt.
Footage from the plane’s wing camera showed Fraser touching the ground meters before power lines crossing the road.
The pilot managed to make the dangerous landing despite having less than 100 flying hours and having only received his license eight months ago.
Fraser added: “By the grace of God I checked to the left and besides the mountains and valleys I saw the road, finally I managed to sit on it.”
Sheriff of the area Curtis Cochran told the media: “We received the notification about the crash of a plane but fortunately it was not like that, it was unusual but different circumstances.”
He added that the incident continues to be investigated.
