One year after Sali Berisha was declared a “non grata” person, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that it is a shame that in 2022 there are still people who speak the language of Enver Hoxha against the United States of America.
From “Skanderbeg” square, where together with the US ambassador, Yuri Kim, attended the concert of the American army wind band, Veliaj stressed that Albanians have nothing to do with that noisy minority that tries to solve its problems, creating debates invalid with America.
“Last year it became fashionable, whoever has a problem in politics, starts cursing America; who has any problem with himself, shan one of our foundations. Whoever has a problem with his life, who has dilemmas of his own life, tries to find fault with someone else. First, I am ashamed that there are still people among us who, in 2022, are ready to speak the language of Enver Hoxha against America. I’m ashamed that in 2022, in an open city of 1 million people, there are people who want to make a career out of swearing at America. We are better than that, we are more virtuous than that, we are more grateful than that. “Our race is many times better than a noisy minority, who try to solve their problems by creating worthless debates with America”, stressed Veliaj.
The mayor said that Albanians are grateful to the US for the help they have given to our country. “I want a round of applause from all of you, to show that we are grateful, we are loyal, and we are the majority of those who love this strong, healthy and beautiful relationship as today. Enjoy the evening, America is definitely power, it’s definitely the military, it’s definitely the economy, but we believe not only in what is strong power, but also in what is soft power, like movies, music. Today we are to celebrate not only those who are in military uniforms, but also those who are with musical instruments, even how beautiful it is when the two powers come together, even the people in uniform, and the songs of the American “Rock’n & Roll” . I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and I can not wait to celebrate until the end this fantastic week, which celebrates the special relationship between Albanians and Americans “, said Veliaj.
He underlined that today Albanians live in a free country, thanks to a very special friendship with the United States. “Today we live in a free country, in a transformed city, in a city where Albanians, Italians, Americans, people of 140 nationalities live, and today many of these legends that seemed to us forbidden apples, are possible. They are possible thanks to freedom and openness, but they are also possible thanks to a very special friendship that we have with the American embassy, with the American state, with all American citizens, who have a special feeling for Albania, a special love, even a special lawyer, for whom we are all very grateful “, declared the Mayor, Erion Veliaj.
