The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, received his Lund counterpart, Philip Sandberg, with whom he discussed the creation of new bridges of cooperation with the youth of both cities, especially during these years when Tirana holds the title of European Youth Capital.
“It is a pleasure to share our experience for this year’s events, as well as to see how to advance many of the youth causes and good works that are done in cities like Lund. I informed the mayor how the city of Tirana has financed an infinity of youth activities – so far about 500 activities have taken place and until the end of the year we have another 500 – but the title European Youth Capital is not just a symbolic title. We have many young people engaged in the City Council and we want this to continue with representation in Parliament or other institutions.“, underlined Veliaj.
The mayor said that Tirana and its young people are very interested in learning from Lund, which is considered the “Capital of Europe” for digitalization.
“Lund is indeed one of the most important cities in Sweden, but it is also the Capital of Europe for digitalization. It is a special pleasure to have groups of young people who have the opportunity to meet each other, to create some bridges of cooperation that last a lifetime. I am very glad that we are also taking steps forward in the field of digitization, especially for children and young people, who are being trained at the TUMO center”said Veliaj.
The mayor of Lund, Philip Sandberg, said that he and the group of young people accompanying him, have come to Tirana to learn more from the European Youth Capital.
“We are a city that loves youth and young people and we are very impressed to see how you are working as the European Youth Capital. We want to learn from Tirana, but also to share our experiences. Our youth are the future of our countries. We have to invest for it”, Sandberg pointed out.
