The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj received yesterday the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy, Roberto Fico, with whom he talked about the excellent relations between the two countries and the agenda of the Italian Culture Week in Tirana. Veliaj also emphasized the fraternal friendship between the two peoples.
Fico: “I invite everyone to visit Tirana, it is not in vain that it is the European Capital of Youth”
“You were the first to open your heart and door to many Albanian emigrants. They have today created families, businesses, integrated and sometimes become even more Italian than Italians, as Italy has returned to their second home. Today, in these difficult times where we are living, it is becoming very important to understand who our friends are. When you look at what is happening in Ukraine with the Russian attack, we are very grateful that we have neighbor Italy. An Italy, which has helped us in the difficult days and with whom we are growing together in these good days “, said Veliaj.
As a sign of gratitude, the mayor presented the President of the Chamber of Deputies with the “Key of Tirana”, thus appreciating the hospitality of the neighboring country for thousands of Albanians in the years of transition. At the center of the conversation between them was also the agenda of the Italian Culture Week.
“This year, together with the Italian ambassador in Tirana, we have prepared a super agenda for the Italian Culture Week. We start on June 2, but in Albania the weeks of Italian culture happen every day and every year. Therefore, I feel very happy that today I give you the Key of the city of Tirana, as a sign of an open door, of an open heart. Therefore, I give you this Key on behalf of the Municipal Council and the city of Tirana, which I want to consider as your second home “, Veliaj emphasized.
For his part, Fico presented the mayor with a reminder from the Italian Chamber of Deputies, thus expressing appreciation for the connection between the two peoples and the adaptation of Albanians in the neighboring country. He praised the fact that Tirana has been selected as the “European Youth Capital 2022”, as well as the change that the city has undergone in recent years.
“We are two friendly peoples. I appreciate the work you do here in Albania, and I also appreciate the Albanians who are in our country. Today there are more than 700 thousand, and they are fully integrated. To us they are real brothers. I also know about your work here in Tirana, it is a very important, professional work, and congratulations that this year you are the European Capital of Youth, thanks to the important initiatives that you realize. I know how difficult it is to be the mayor of a city and especially of the capital. I know how beautiful and important it is also to be the mayor of a capital. Urime! There is no doubt that for us Tirana is one of the European capitals. It is highly appreciated and I invite everyone to visit Tirana during these celebrations. “It is not in vain that Tirana managed to receive the title of European Youth Capital”, said Fico.
