The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj received the Mayor of Tees Valley, Ben Houchen, with whom he discussed ways of cooperation, especially to strengthen relations between young people in the two cities. Veliaj and Houchen emphasized the presence of a large number of Albanians in the Tees Valley, who, as they claimed, are best integrated and the possibility of a dedicated airline is being considered.
“It is a great pleasure to welcome my friend, the Mayor of Tees Valley, and colleagues from the UK. Many thanks for the way the Albanian art community is integrated, but also in many countries of Great Britain. We are a nation of immigrants. From the difficult conditions of communism, with the fall of that system, a large part of our population emigrated, and often, only when we visit each other, do we realize that some of the urban legends and myths we hear about 1 in 100 cases, where someone perhaps there is bad manners, we forget the 99 others who in fact, are honest family members, work hard, set up a business, try to be part of the UK’s staff and have produced a reputation, like the one you tell me about Albanians living in Tees Valley, ”said Veliaj, among others.
For his part, Mayor Ben Houchen said that the distance between the two cities would become smaller if the cooperation would be greater, especially for Albanian students studying in England. “It is amazing to see the work you are doing here in Tirana. We want to do something to help you, but at the same time, I think we should continue this relationship because we can learn a lot from what you are doing, what we can do especially with young people. We have a large university in Tees Side. It would be good to talk about how we can work with Albanian youth as well. We have such a large Albanian population in Tees Side, so we can establish a direct line from Tirana airport and we hope to add other lines in the future, “said the mayor of Tees Valley.
Veliaj presented to the Mayor of Tees Valley, Ben Houchen, the Clock Tower of Tirana, a symbolic sign of hospitality in the Albanian capital.
