The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, announced today at the meeting of the Municipal Council, that heavy tonnage vehicles will be allowed to move only during the weekend, with fixed schedules, until September, when schools start again.
According to the latest order, starting from this Friday, from 18:00, heavy tonnage vehicles will be allowed to move until Monday, at 07:00 in the morning. In September, with the start of the new school year, their movement will be restricted again.
“We have decided that for the summer period, starting from Friday afternoon until Monday morning, when people are on vacation and can go to the beach, we will allow the movement of heavy tonnage vehicles. This is because we have many open construction sites, which we need to close. In September we will open 12 new schools and we must meet the deadline. Also, we have 10 buildings under construction in Kombinat, as well as an infinity of objects of public interest, such as the Tirana Maternity Hospital. “The construction of the rest of the ring road, from Lapraka in the direction of Paskuqan, will also start on May 5, so as long as Tirana has less traffic during the holidays, we took this decision,” said Veliaj.
