A major winter storm, followed by snow and ice, in some parts of the United States and Canada, has faced more than 80 million people with weather warnings.
More than 145,000 people are without electricity in some southern and eastern regions.
Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina have declared a state of emergency.
The US Weather Service has said that over 30 centimeters of snow is expected in some regions.
Snow and ice can “endanger travel, power supplies and damage trees,” the weather service said.
According to the Associated Press news agency, hundreds of vehicle accidents have been reported on highways.
More than 3,000 flights in and out of the U.S. were canceled on Sunday, according to flight monitoring site FlightAware.
Charlotte Douglas Airport in North Carolina has been worst affected, with nearly 90 percent of flights canceled.
