In the United States, the number of victims of the COVID-19 pandemic has exceeded 900,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
US President Joe Biden, through a statement, called for vaccination of citizens.
“Every soul is irreplaceable. “We pray for the loved ones we lost and together we hold in our hearts every family that is going through this pain,” Biden said, urging citizens to “get vaccinated, vaccinate your children and take booster doses.”
The US, with a population of about 330 million, is the country with the highest number of deaths from COVID-19.
This record number of victims comes as cases with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus have begun to fall. Daily cases have dropped by almost half a million since mid-January, when record infection figures of more than 800,000 were recorded.
Nearly 64 percent of U.S. citizens are fully vaccinated, while 42 percent have received the booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
