A mother from Virginia in the US has been detained by authorities after telling the school board she would come with a “loaded gun” if teachers asked her children to wear masks in the classroom.
Amelia King, 42, was charged by Luray police with verbal threats inside the school premises, when the leaders had gathered in a meeting, writes the network CNN.
“All right, there are no mandatory masks,” King told teachers in the meeting room. “My children will not come to school in masks. “If that happens, I will come with all the rifles ready.”
King was released on $ 5,000 bail.
In an email apologizing to school board members she said she was speaking figuratively.
“I did not want to say ‘with all rifles loaded’, not for firearms, figuratively I meant with all my resources that my children do not wear masks when they are at school,” the email said.
The school board were in fact discussing the implementation of COVID-19 measures following Governor’s order Glenn Youngkin who said parents can decide whether or not their children wear masks at school.
Consequently, the school board voted 4-2 in favor of “putting on the mask at the parent’s request.”
But masks are required for children on the school bus.
