A girl from New Mexico in the US has been charged with murder after a extortion scheme on the Snapchat network went wrong and the money payer ended up shot to death.
Dukes is believed to have connected with Otero’s brother, Nicholas, via Snapchat, and then seduced him in a meeting where three armed men, including her boyfriend, were waiting for the victim, the local daily writes. Albuquerque Journal.
They robbed Nicholas of money and jewelry, then took him to his brother’s house, where they asked Elias to bring money, otherwise they threatened to kill Nicholas, the network reports KOB 4.
Elias had threatened to shoot the hostages but the confrontation proved fatal when the Duke’s boyfriend, Adrian Avila, 17, opened fire and shot Elias to death, according to reports.
Dukes already faces charges of murder, hostage-taking, armed robbery and tampering with evidence at the crime scene.
Avila turned herself in to police last month, and now faces the same charges as the Dukes.
The mourning mother of the victim Alicia Otero told the media that she hopes justice will be done for her son.
“Every day I wish for justice to be done, for someone to pay for what they did, knowing that he has surrendered. “I feel good that at least it will not remain unresolved,” she added.
