Parts of the U.S. East Coast have been hit by a terrifying storm and heavy snowfall, causing transportation chaos and power outages for thousands of citizens.
Five states declared an emergency hours before snow and strong winds swept through the area on Saturday.
In some areas of Massachusetts the thickness of the snow has gone up to 75 cm of snow.
Nearly 6,000 flights to the US were canceled over the weekend, while weather conditions are expected to ease on Sunday.
Weather forecasters warn that cold temperatures will remain a problem in much of the northeast, with snowstorms continuing in the state of Maine.
The storm, known as Nor’Easter, has hit parts of New York and Massachusetts with heavy snowfall, coastal flooding and hurricanes.
As of Saturday evening, more than 80,000 homes in the state of Massachusetts were still without electricity.
Cape Cod was one of the hardest hit regions, while coastal storm flooding was also reported in Nantucket.
The National Weather Service (NIS) confirmed on Saturday that the storm had suffered what is known as bombogenesis, meaning that colder air mixed with warmer sea air, leading to a rapid drop in atmospheric pressure. The process leads to the so-called bomb cyclone.
