A U.S. citizen has today admitted allegations that she held the role of commander of a battalion with only female Islamic State militants in Syria, court documents released to the media said.
Allison Fluke-Ekren made the appearance in the court of Alexandria, Virginia.
She previously lived in Kansas, but was extradited to the US only earlier this year on criminal charges of providing material support to foreign terrorist organizations.
The young woman was stationed in Egypt in 2008 but since 2016, according to prosecutors, she has run an Islamic State female military unit in the Syrian city of Raqqa after being trained to use AK-47 assault rifles, grenades and suicide bombers.
In the detention request by prosecutor Raj Parekh said she trained minors to use weapons, and at least one witness saw one of the accused’s children, then 6-7 years old, automatically missing from their home in Syria.
Prosecutors said Fluke-Ekren sought to recruit US operatives and discussed “multi-victim attacks.”
The criminal charges against Fluke-Ekren had been made since 2019 but were made public only after her return to the US where she will face them.
