A phone call on Friday morning announced that he had been issued a US visa, for Sadete Mazari it was not an April Fool’s lie.
Not only was her visa stamped with the American flag stamped in her passport, but she becomes the first Albanian to receive a visa not three years as before, but 10 years according to the new visa system approved by the US government for Albanians.
Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu met 23-year-old Mazari after she left the diplomatic headquarters on Elbasan Street.
MUHAMMED VELIU-You are the first Albanian to receive a 10-year American visa. How did you feel when Ambassador Yuri Kim was given your passport with this visa?
SADETE MAZARI–Very excited. Normally a feeling that every Albanian would have. Generally very very happy.
Ambassador Yuri Kim herself handed over the visa to Sadeta at the embassy premises, commenting on Twitter that today may be April 1, but this is not a joke! April 1 marks the first day of a 10-year visa extension for Albanians obtaining tourist and business visas to the United States.
SADETE MAZARI-He asked me about my plans, about my family bacground. He showed me how important a step it is for all of Albania for the part of travel to America since visas from 3 became 10 years. It was a very pleasant conversation. No embarrassment, no emotions.
MUHAMMED VELIU-What do you intend to do with this visa?
SADETE MAZARI- In fact I had planned to go to New York City with my close friend in the summer. I have visited him before but I wanted to go with him this time and have a more unique experience.
MUHAMMED VELIU-Does having a 10-year visa in your pocket increase your desire to stay and find a job that goes into other processes?
SADETE MAZARI-I think it is the opposite. When I know I have it for 10 years I can visit it whenever I want. It does not push me to get hired. Maybe in the future. I do not plan it at the moment. I just want to go there to enjoy it.
The selection of this 23-year-old in obtaining the first 10-year visa, at first glance seems random but knowing that American diplomacy speaks through symbolism, this shows that the future of US relations with Albania are young people.
For the young and old sinners of Albanian politics, they have been given a visa by giving only the prefix ‘non grata’.
