The Mediterranean seal known by the scientific name Monachus monachus is one of the rare mammals widespread on the Albanian Riviera.
In the video provided by journalist Mikel Marsi, this seal appears in the Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park, part of the protected areas of Vlora district.
Less than 700 individuals are thought to have survived from this species, which ranks it among the critically endangered species in both the Red List of Species in Albania and the IUCN Red List.
The Regional Administration of Protected Areas Vlora, in cooperation with fishermen of the area, aquaculture and tourist agencies provides the necessary information from field observations, necessary cooperation to ensure the protection of seals and increase the chance for success of reproduction in our country.
