The World Health Organization has warned that attacks on Ukrainian hospitals, ambulances and other healthcare facilities have increased “rapidly”.
The UN has also indicated that vital medical supplies are running out in recent days.
Reuters reported that the UN on Monday confirmed that 9 people had died in 16 attacks on healthcare facilities since the start of a Russian occupation.
Europe Regional Director Hans Kluge said the UN is working urgently to obtain medical supplies for Ukraine. Among the supplies running out are oxygen, insulin, PPE, surgical supplies and blood products. According to him, oxygen, children’s vaccines and mental health expertise were among their top priorities, as well as the needs of women.
Further, Kluge added that previous conflicts have shown that teenage girls, women with disabilities and older women are more vulnerable to attacks by people outside the home and by armed groups.
