UN officials have warned that the protracted war in Ukraine is threatening a global hunger crisis.
UN crisis co-ordinator Amin Awad said at least 15.7 million people in Ukraine now urgently need help and protection, as the number grows every day.
“100 days of war, 100 days of suffering, devastation, mass destruction… The lives of millions of people have been destroyed,” Awad told a news conference.
Nearly 14 million people, a third of the population were forced to flee the war, while others are fighting for survival, the coordinator said.
Humanitarian aid has helped more than 1.5 million people so far and the figure could reach 8.7 million by August, and 25 million by the end of the year, he said.
