UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Kiev ahead of talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In a post on social media, he announced that he had arrived in Ukraine after visiting Moscow.
“We will continue our work to expand humanitarian support and ensure the evacuation of civilians from conflict areas. “The sooner this war ends, the better for the sake of Ukraine, Russia and the world.”wrote Guterres.
Yesterday during a two-hour meeting, UN Secretary General and President Vladimir Putin agreed on the participation of the UN and the ICRC in the evacuation from the Azovstal steel plant.
The steel plant has for some time been housing about 2,000 troops and 1,000 civilians, who are said to have been sheltered in bunkers, under the destroyed building.
