Millions of refugees in Yemen are facing starvation due to the interruption of food aid.
“Refugee families in Yemen face growing hunger over food aid cuts”, said the UNHCR in a statement on Twitter regarding the humanitarian situation in the country.
More than half of the country’s refugees, about 4 million people, live in areas with urgent food needs, the statement said.
Earlier this month, the UN announced that some of its major humanitarian aid programs in Yemen had been suspended and some reduced due to lack of funding.
Yemen, where political instability has long prevailed, has been the scene of clashes for seven years between Iran-backed Huthi rebels and government-linked forces.
The country is experiencing one of the biggest humanitarian and economic crises in the world, where the majority of the population needs help.
