More than 4,000 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the start of the Russian occupation on February 24, though the exact number is probably much higher, the United Nations Office for Human Rights (OHCHR) said.
A total of 4,031 people were killed, including nearly 200 children, according to the OHCHR, which has dozens of observers in the country. Most were killed during bombings or airstrikes.
The OHCR did not mention who was responsible for the civilian deaths. Russia has denied targeting civilians in the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking to Indonesian activists on May 27, said about 12 million people had been displaced by the war in Ukraine and that about 5.5 million had fled the country.
Russia launched its invasion of neighboring Ukraine on February 24.
