Alone, Maria Kudyrko and Yulia Obodovska made their way out of their homeland.
The two Ukrainians together with their three children left the whole family in Ukraine, to find shelter with their cousin in Kosovo, Jana Zhdrella.
The road to escape for them was long, but it was inevitable because of the war their country is facing.
“On the way home, we heard alarms announcing the bombing. But we did not know where the rocket would hit. From our city, Vinnitsa to Moldova we arrived very quickly, but at the border we waited very long. We traveled for four days and slept in another country every night. We passed through Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia and reached Kosovo“, Says Maria Kudyrko.
They already say that they are comfortable in Kosovo, but that their minds and prayers are directed to the families they left behind and Ukraine, where they hope to return as soon as possible.
“I always think about leaving and going home, with my son. To return home, to see the family left there, the house, the road, to live life as we have lived so far“, Says Yulia Obodovska.
For them, the fear that one day their family members will not be notified, is always present.
“We try to talk to them as often as possible. “Every hour or every two or three hours, we try to talk to them, to know how they are, but every time I think they will not open my phone.”says Yulia Obodovska.
The three children have already started their socialization with other children in Kosovo. Those from Tuesday go to one of the educational centers in Pristina, where they perform various activities.
On Thursday, Kosovo registered the first five Ukrainian refugees who were forced to flee their country due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
