Andri, a photojournalist was invited to “Wake Up”, where he spoke about the situation in Ukraine, saying that the fiercest war will be in Donbask, so he will go there to see closely how Ukrainian forces are trying to resist Russian occupation.
He said that no one could have imagined that the Ukrainian forces would be so strong implying that the whole world thought that the Russian occupation would be able to get whatever it wanted within 2 days.
Andri: My friend wore a blue bulletproof vest to show he is a journalist. If they killed him, it’s a war crime, but I do not know if they killed him.
Question: How much does the loss of friends in the middle of the war affect to continue the mission?
Andri: When you see civilians and friends killed, when you find out that journalists have been killed, then you try to inform others about the situation, but it is not about leaving, but you have to be more careful and think more about how to save yourself. In the meantime I try to go to Donbask where the fiercest fighting will be.
The world thought that Russia would invade Ukraine in 2 or 3 days, but did not manage to take Mariupol either. We are now seeing how Western countries are supporting Ukraine and offering more aid. I think the West will offer more and then Europe will come.
