The Ukrainian Emergency Service has reported that at least 8 people have died as a result of Russian bombardment of residential areas in the northeastern city of Kharkiv in the last 24 hours.
In a statement issued Monday, Ukraine’s Emergency Service said a bomb blast at around 7:15 p.m. local time destroyed high-rise apartment buildings, administrative buildings, medical facilities, educational institutions and dormitories.
There were also large-scale fires in 21 buildings in the central part of the city. Authorities say about 200 people were rescued and evacuated by rescue teams during the fires.
Meanwhile, today, the Russian Ministry of Defense said it would stop shooting on Monday, to allow civilians to leave their homes in the Ukrainian cities of Kiev, Kharkiv, Sumy and Mariupol.
