The first Ukrainian athletes have arrived in Tirana, in an effort to escape the tragedy of the war and to create a chance to continue their great sports dream for the international activities that await them.
8 athletes and their two coaches were received at the Tirana airport by the president of the Olympic Committee. Fidel Ylli who has emphasized after everything, from transport to hotel accommodation and their safety has been taken over by the Albanian government.
Everything has been taken over by the Albanian government and Prime Minister Rama for the security of their transport and residence.
Also present at the capital’s airport was the Ukrainian Ambassador to Tirana Volodymyr Shkurov.
These are the first athletes to come to Albania. Most of the Ukrainians who have left the country are in our neighboring countries like Poland, Hungary or the Czech Republic. Other immigrants from Ukraine will come here in the future, although at the moment I can not say how many. The situation there is very tragic, many of my friends there in Keiv are homeless, with nothing at the moment, I also have some friends who unfortunately lost their lives there. But I want to thank you for the hospitality.
Athletes are athletes of various disciplines but at a very young age ranging from 20 and 21 years old.
I’m from Donetsk, a bombed-out country, I hear a lot of gunfire and I do not like them. I came here to train and continue the preparations for the U20 World Cup in Colombia. My family is still in Ukraine and I would love for them to come too. At the moment they do not have any concerns but I know they are endangered there.
I am very scared for my family after I have a sister there with my little niece and mom. They are in a dangerous situation.
The Ukrainian athletes together with their two coaches will stay in the city of Elbasan where they will have the opportunity to train at the Elbasan Arena, a stadium which also has an athletics track.
