Ukraine has intensified its diplomatic efforts to prevent a full-scale war with Russia.
This Sunday, Prime Minister Volodymyr Zelensky spoke by telephone with US President Joe Biden and European Council President Charles Michel. In both calls, the emphasis is on Ukraine pursuing all the avenues of diplomacy to prevent war. The White House chief made it clear that in the event of a Russian aggression, America’s actions would be harsh and decisive. Zelensky for his part demanded more funding and armaments.
Meanwhile, European airlines are suspending their flights to Kiev. The first is a Dutch company, which no longer offers Ukraine as a destination. This brought an emergency statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure, which said that the airline remains open for travel and that all measures have been taken for its safety. The country’s prime minister then reacted. $ 592 million has been secured for insurance companies and aircraft so that flights to Ukraine can continue.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has taken a diplomatic step, urging the Organization for Peace and Security in Europe to bring Russia to the table to explain the reasons for the military preparations, according to the responsibilities stemming from the Vienna Document.
The Vienna Document, signed under the auspices of the OSCE, stipulates that the participating States shall consult and co-operate with each other on any unusual and unplanned activities of their military forces outside their normal peacetime positions, which are militarily important.
The Ukrainian government has called on citizens to avoid panic, with President Zelensky urging Western intelligence agencies to report any invasions immediately.
